Nokia Asha 200 Full review: Dual SIMpatico

Introduction

Nokia’s Asha is back for another round of bargain basement action and we find ourselves wondering how much cheaper it can get. Most of the time it makes sense to be skeptical of the lowest bidder but we’ve found the Finns’ budget lineup to be efficient and dependable.

So, cheap it is. And although there’re lots of bad ways to be cheap, the Nokia Asha 200 seems to get it right. It’s a QWERTY messenger with dual-SIM support. There isn’t a whole lot more to it than that – but Nokia are getting ready to sell big. You don’t offer eight – repeat, eight – paintjobs unless you anticipate huge demand. Read more…

Nokia Lumia 800 Full review: New beginnings

Introduction

It will take crowds erupting in delight to silence the ring of the “burning platform” speech in the Nokia Lumia 800′s ears. The speaker being Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and the burning platform Symbian.

As Nokia are starting over, the Lumia 800 would do well not to look back. It’s certainly beyond the ifs and buts. A shadow still lingers though. And there are people out there – loyal Nokia users too – who would’ve jumped in the fire with MeeGo rather than the freezing waters of Windows Phone. Read more…

BlackBerry Curve 9360 Full review: Up and about

Introduction

This QWERTY messenger is compact and to the point, with clean and grown up design. The Curve 9360 is sure it can deliver, its confidence unshaken by unknowns and uncertainties. RIM must’ve enjoyed the safety and comfort of doing what they’re best at.

The new Bold flagship and the next Torch generation did the Curve 9360 a favor by taking the pressure of high expectations off it. All it needs to do is focus on the important stuff: giving business users and heavy texters the quality service they deserve. And by the way, it should be the best Curve experience they ever had. HTC Sensation XL Full review: Music and the beast

Introduction

They say music soothes even the savage beast. In the case of the HTC Sensation XL, it just makes it cooler. The Sensation XL shares its design and mammoth 4.7″ screen with the Titan, but the XL is part of the Android squad and packs a lyrical iBeats headset.

The Sensation XL uses almost exactly the same hardware as the Titan – the major difference is that the XL packs four Android capacitive keys and there’s no hardware shutter key, but that’s about it.

The single Scorpion core in the Snapdragon chipset runs at 1.5GHz again and the camera is an 8MP unit that records 720p video. Even the screen is the same 4.7″ WVGA S-LCD unit, not the qHD resolution of the Sensation XE.

Here’s the list of pros and cons to sum up how well the merging of Titan hardware and Sensation software went. Read more…

First photo of the LG Nitro HD surfaces, lands at AT&T soon

First official photo of the LG Nitro HD just surfaced. Actually, the device isn’t completely new, as it’s merely the US version of the LG Optimus LTE with a fancy name heading to AT&T some time soon.

As its name suggests, the Nitro HD will sport a 1280×720 pixel 4.5-inch HD-IPS LCD screen. A 1.5GHz dual-core Scorpion processor on a Snapdragon chipset and 1GB of RAM should do the heavy lifting under the hood. The specs get even better with the 8MP camera with LED flash at the back and 4GB memory, which is expandable thanks to the microSD card slot.

The Nitro HD will be launched on AT&T’s new 4G LTE network and will be taking on the Verizon’s upcoming Galaxy Nexus and HTC Rezound duo. There’s no word on pricing and availability just yet, but we suspect it’s just around the corner as the holiday season is fast approaching and AT&T has no time to waste.

Sony Ericsson Xperia active Full review: The Rainmaker

Introduction

Flick it, kick it, throw it, wet it. Drag and drop it. And watch it come back for more. The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is a survivor. The rugged smartphone has a Bravia Reality display and exchangeable covers, 1GHz of oomph and HD video, and plenty of sporty apps. It’s got you – tucked under an arm strap. It goes wherever you go.

Durable smartphones are becoming an Android-exclusive niche and Sony Ericsson want in. But the Xperia active believes that an IP67-certified phone doesn’t have to be all muscle and no charm.

The Xperia active is a cute little phone – the action-scene body double of the Xperia mini. Go ahead, laugh it up, Sonim. This is a phone that doesn’t take much pocket space, which is a big plus in our book. And no, they don’t have to be cargo pockets either. Read more…

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman Full review: Droid’s got talent

Introduction

Not the first time Sony Ericsson are trying to mix man and robot. But this time they’re not simply putting the W in Android. The Live with Walkman is part of the company’s ongoing effort to bring their smartphone lineup up to date. The next one due for upgrade is the Sony Ericsson W8.

Just like its predecessor, the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman puts the music in your pocket without scraping the cash out of it. It’s more than a music player though – a 5 MP cameraphone and a Gingerbread-powered smartphone with all the right features for the money-conscious buyer. Read more…
